The Opportunity
As a VAS Engineer II, you will be performing daily protocols development/internet traffic classification based activities for Sandvine’s key accounts. You will use your excellent attention to detail and investigative skills to monitor, identify any applications changes, and lead to design and develop solutions to properly classify applications/internet traffic. You will work closely with Engineering team, Customer Success team and Account team, Issues that are outside of your knowledge domain will be escalated to Sandvine’s customer success global team for further investigation while you play a key role in communicating status updates to the customer and scheduling further investigation activities as require until resolution.
The Job
Lead discussions with customers about application signature trends and relate to business policies important to customersDaily monitoring/testing of critical Apps, system health, logs, alarms with a sense of urgency when issues ariseAnalyze & troubleshoot critical Applications traffic and detect problems through the use of essential software tools (traffic sniffers, simulators, traffic detection, logs)Work on deployed solutions to identify Grey critical Apps/protocols trafficDesign and develop new solutions for identifying/monitoring critical Apps/protocols trafficLead the analysis/discussion with other departments in order to solve and prevent issuesProvide knowledge transfer to customerManage Proofs of Concept from ideas to prototype stage with view of improving Sandvine delivery practiceProviding consultative support and mentor other less experienced team membersPositive contribution towards quality reviews for other colleagues and peersPublish internal and external studies on regional application trends that affect service providersWork collaboratively with global signature development resources to advance Sandvine classification capabilities and bring the latest classification techniques to customersWork effectively as a member of the team, taking initiative in driving projects to completion, and assuming a leadership role when needed What Skills You Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other STEM program5+ years of applicable experienceCommanding knowledge of Unix based operating systems such as Linux, FreeBSD etcExperience with programming or scripting languages such as Java, C/C++, python, Perl etcExcellent background of packet level debugging using Wireshark, tcpdump, tcpreplay or similar toolsExposure to and understanding of web application concepts like P2P, VoIP, WAP, MMS, RTSPExcellent technical background with a strong understanding of networking (specifically IP related technologies)Experience in Quality Assurance testingExcellent knowledge and operating experience in VoIP/IPTV/Video streaming and related protocols and architectureExcellent understanding of end-to-end network call flows, as well as relevant technologies & protocols (DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, DHCP, RADIUS, DIAMETER, GRE, SIP, RTP, MGCP, H.323,RTCP)Ability to manage challenges and set priorities in a complex environmentStrong experience in applications and OSI layers and protocolsProviding solutions to detect and classify traffic properly, Excellent Experience in traffic classification and encryption principlesExposure to machine learning principles, algorithms, security or encryption technologies for traffic classificationUnderstanding of data modeling and corresponding techniques such as clustering, correlations Additional Knowledge and Skills
Hands-on experience with the installation, configuration, and/or operation of network equipment such as Cisco, Juniper or other network hardware manufacturersExperience with web technologies (Javascript, HTML5, HTTP, etc.)Exposure to virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM), deployment of Openstack and experience with automation tools like AnsibleFamiliar with cloud architecture (AWS, Google cloud, AWS,…), containers and orchestration concepts (kubernetes, swarm) and tools like Docker,Jenkins,…Exposure to virtual concepts like: NUMA, SRIOV, PCI-Passthrough,VirtioUnderstanding of NFV particularly around MANO/ONAMPGood understanding of billing and charging concepts and experience with Online Charging and Policy Enforcement (OCS, PCRF, PCEF)Knowledge of industry models and best practices (eg.
